How To Get A New Jersey Real Estate License

Basic Requirements

Age: Must be 18 years old.

Education:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Character: Be of good moral character.

Citizenship: U.S. citizen or legally present in the United States

Pre-Licensing
Education & Exam

Complete 75 Hours of Pre-License education from a New Jersey Real Estate Commission-approved school.

Pass the Real Estate School Final Exam

Pass the NJ State Real Estate Exam

Background Check

Fingerprints must be processed and submitted the the real estate commission. 

Undergo an official background check by the real estate commission.

Information on how, where and when to get fingerprinted will be discussed during class.

Broker Affiliation/Sponsorship and License Application

All prospective licensees must affiliate with a licensed New Jersey real estate broker who will submit your license application and supervise your real estate transactions and activities.

Applicants intending to be licensed must apply for the real estate license no sooner than after they pass the state exam but within one year from the date that they successfully completed the real estate school course.
